1954
Despite record entries in the competition classes in 1953, the attendance figures were down and the show ran at a loss.
It also appears the venue at Sandye Place was no longer available.
In these circumstances the committee were unable to arrange a show for 1954
An appeal fund was launched bringing in £19 11s. The Sandy Fur and Feather Society raised a further £20 towards the appeal at their show
held on Thursday 3rd September 1954 and later donated a further £10.
At the committee meeting on 2nd September 1954 it was recognised that because of the financial position and the lack of support in the town
it would not be possible to continue to produce the show in it's traditional form.
Three proposals were put forward
i. to run another show along the same lines
ii. to have a new type of show at Hassells
iii. to wind up The Society
It was decided to hold a public meeting to decide the issue.
At a public meeting on 24th September 1954 despite reservations of some of the officers and committee and the fragile financial position
the commitee was urged to organise a Show in 1955 at Hassells Hall.
At the committee meeting on 15th October 1954 a motion was passed instructing the Secretary not to make arrangements for a 1955 Show
until a decision could be made at the the AGM in January 1955. This despite it being pointed out that it would not be possible to make the necessary arrangements for a Show if the decison was left till January.
